ROYAL CANBERRA wins the last Pennant Final for this season.

The Royal Canberra A Grade (Division 1) Pennant team of — (photo L. to R.) Robert Cowdroy, Andrew Tharle, Grant Jones, Charlie Cameron (Capt), Harry Whitelock and Harry Bolton [plus Manager Doc O’Connor] defeated the Federal team of — Adam Robinson, Adam Granquist, Callan Robertson, Andy McLaren, Lachlan Chamberlain and Craig Whitehead in last Sunday’s Pennant Final at Yowani. Les Wallace, who was the DGA’s official host and referee for the match, commented, during the post-contest presentation, on how close the contest was and that he thought Royal’s comeback from behind was a bit of a case of a “lazarus-from-the-dead” recovery.

Federal were 3 matches up early and seemed destined to take the trophy, but an amazing recovery shot, by Royal’s number 1 (Grant Jones) from thick grass, behind the drain and trees to the right of the 18th fairway, to set up a birdie and take down Federal’s number 1 Adam Robinson (by a score of 1-up), squared the Contest and set the scene for a sudden death, 4-hole play-off, between Royal’s Harry Bolton and Federal’s Lachlan Chamberlain.

After 3 squared holes with pars, Harry managed to hit a strong 4-iron 2nd shot to just right of the par-5, 4th hole, and then followed this up by a great chip to less than 20 cms away. Lachlan conceded the putt, and when his chip from just off the front of the green slipped past the holes for his birdie, Royal could celebrate retaining the trophy they won last year.

The DGA sincerely thanks Yowani for hosting the final.

This is likely to be the last chance for a while that Yowani will have such a magnificent 18-hole course to accommodate such a game, until their course re-development, due to commence near the end of the year, is completed.
