A relatively small field of 19 players contested the DGA’s January, 1-day Junior Classic, at the Yowani Golf Club on Friday 14th January, 2022. Despite forecast of storms, the weather during the the morning was very pleasant and the course was in excellent condition which resulted in some impressive scores. The event is always contested in two seperate divisions — a Scratch division for low handicappers and a Stableford division for higher handicappers. Royal Canberra’s Angelo Bourandanis won the Scratch Division with a 3-over par score of 75, 2 shots ahead of Federal’s Matilda Sullings on 77. Yowani golfer Bachitar Dhillon won the Stableford Division on 40 points from club-mate Ky Cummins on 39.
Special mention needs to be made of Gungahlin Lake’s youngster Jolie McLoughlin (right-hand side, front, of photo), who accumulated 37 points and finished 3rd in Division 2, and 7-year-old Robert Thompson, from Federal, (at the front centre of group in photo), who arrived expecting to play 9 holes, but played all 18 holes with Jolie off the same white tees as all of the other players. A future ACT golf star, I predict.
Our thanks to the Yowani Club for hosting the event, again.
Overall winner Angelo is behind Robert in the photo (cream shirt white mask).
